Poldark locations & Cornwall's Mining Heritage
Many of the key locations used in the new BBC TV Series ‘Poldark’ were filmed very close to The Commercial. In fact the main mining scenes (Botallack) are within walking distance of our B&B.

Cornish Mining Walks | 1. Count House and Coast, BotallackThis particular walk can be made from the Commercial Hotel and takes in some of the most stunning coastline in Cornwall.
This walk explores the famous Botallack Mine with its dramatic Crowns’ engine houses perched on the edge of the cliffs. It also includes the Count House owned by the National Trust, which has a free exhibition. Cornish Mining Walks | 2. The Mines under the Sea – Geevor to LevantA circular walk exploring the mining landscape around Geevor and Levant before heading down to the sea and following the coast to Levant Mine. These two mines are amongst a group of mines along the St Just coast which form the greatest concentration of submarine tin and copper mines in the world. There are fantastic views along this walk.

Geevor Tin MineThis amazing tin mine museum tells the story of mining in Cornwall and the people who lived here. Dogs are welcome all over the site with the exception of the Underground Tour. Enjoy a home cooked meal in the café with views over the Atlantic; visit the shop for a tempting range of books, minerals, jewellery and crafts.

Lands EndOne of Britain’s best loved landmarks has plenty to offer those seeking a full day out. Nature is still the big attraction, explore the cliff-top trails to view the stunning scenery and experience Land’s End’s unique natural beauty. There is free entry to the site, an all day parking charge applies, plus there are 5 fantastic value family attractions.

SennenHighly regarded by local and non-local surfers alike. Sennen tends to be slightly more protected from winds and swell than Gwenvor at the other end of the bay.
Sennen is good at most tides, surf gear can be hired at the beach, situated next to a large car park and beach cafe. |
The minack TheatreMinack was built in the style of an ancient Roman Amphitheatre, but with the added drama of the ocean as its backdrop. Entertainment is held every year from the end of May until late September. The programme includes a wide variety of productions – straight plays, comedies & musicals.
